đŻ TUESDAY TARGET: Shopify (SHOP) | đ Reveal the Play
Who gets richer when things get cheaper? Investors rarely ask. They spend their lives hunting companies that can raise prices, and a falling price looks like bad news to them, even when it lands in somebodyâs pocket. Saving money needs a better publicity team.
Chinaâs chipmaker CXMT said on Sunday that its new memory chips are in mass production. Memory chips sit in every phone, laptop and server, and three companies make most of them: Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. For a year they have told buyers the shortage lasts into 2027, and charged accordingly. A fourth supplier ends that story. The open question is who keeps the difference: the laptop maker that now buys cheaper chips, or the customer who reads the same news and refuses last yearâs price. The saving goes to whoever bargains first.
Chips are small change. Brazil is chasing the bigger saving, cheaper money, with one condition. Voters pick a president on October 4. Lenders there still charge about ten percentage points above inflation, a fee for years of distrust in BrasĂlia. That fee only falls if the winner presents budgets the bond market believes. Election-night euphoria is easy. Getting a bank to charge less takes work. Watch borrowing costs, skip the politicianâs smile.
Then software that shops for you. Metaâs assistant Muse reached number one on the US App Store within days, Shopify joined, and Amazon locked its doors to Metaâs agents. The company that finds your discount also sells shops access to your attention, so the next fight is over how the saving gets split between buyer, seller and assistant. Follow businesses whose costs fall faster than the prices they charge.
Below, as always, the minimum you need to know to get a feel for whatâs cooking:
Crude Falls, Diesel Doesnât
Brent settled at $96 and WTI at $92 on Monday on hopes that Trump meets Iranâs president at the UN, while Hormuz stays shut and the US strategic reserve sits at a 1982 low. Diesel went the other way, hitting $6.51 a gallon after Ukrainian strikes knocked out roughly 45% of Russian refining. Senator Grassley wants an export embargo; with the US supplying 30% of global diesel exports, a ban moves the shortage abroad and invites retaliation.
Everyone Hates a Market Near Its High
AAII bears jumped to 53%, the highest since May 2025, Goldmanâs positioning gauge sits at a one-year low and hedge fund net exposure ranks in the bottom fifth of the past year. Morgan Stanley sees a possible dip to 7,100 before year-end 8,000; Goldman targets 8,700 in twelve months. Clean positioning plus record earnings means the pain trade points up, with midterm volatility in between.
Trump and Xi: Deals Yes, Bargain No
Xi lands in Washington Wednesday with a state dinner Thursday. Bessent reports twelve hours of talks, an AI hotline, tariff exemptions on farm goods, medical supplies and low-end electronics, and a truce extension of six months to a year. Rare-earth magnet exports to the US have plunged into the meeting. Expect a longer ceasefire and headline purchases; chip licensing and Taiwan stay unresolved.
Gold Pauses, Central Banks Keep Buying
Gold slipped with the stronger dollar on Monday, and Goldman trimmed its year-end fair value to $4,650 from $4,900 because higher rates dent ETF demand. Its end-2027 target of $5,400 stands, built on central banks buying at more than five times the pre-2022 pace. Three extra Fed hikes would imply about $4,070. The downside is defined; the structural bid is state-owned.
Europeâs Quiet Front With Russia
Explosives found near a Leipzig logistics hub, arson at drone makers in Estonia, Slovakia and Poland, Danish disclosures of sabotage planning and Polish warnings of âaccidentalâ strikes describe a campaign already underway, and Russia has restricted movement near the Estonian border through September 26. A low-probability, high-impact escalation deserves cheap optionality: European defence names and palladium, where Russia holds about 40% of supply.
THE WEEK: Xi Visits, the Fed Talks, Factories Report
A dozen Fed officials speak this week, so every sentence gets read for hints of another hike in October. Wednesdayâs business surveys should show the economy still growing, with the Treasury selling $70bn of five-year debt into a market demanding 5%. Thursday brings the Trump-Xi summit and rate decisions in Norway, Sweden and Switzerland. Fridayâs factory orders show whether the AI spending wave is still real; consumer mood stays near record lows.

Tactics for this Tape
Positioning is clean, sentiment is sour, earnings are strong and protection is cheap. Keep your core stock exposure, insure it with index puts while the VIX sits at 14, and hold energy and long-bond volatility beside it, because oil and the 30-year decide the next big move. Trade small caps and consumer names from the short side until the weakest borrowers stop paying more to refinance.
Donât guess. Reach out. Letâs build a capital-efficient yet risk-managed strategy from the option chain up.

TUESDAY TARGET: Shopify (SHOP)
Software that shops for you needs shops willing to be shopped. Amazon slammed the door on Metaâs agents; Shopify opened its own, signing a partnership with Muse the same week the assistant hit number one on the App Store. If agents become the checkout counter of the internet, the merchant platform that plugs in first collects the traffic Amazon just refused.
The stock gave back most of its earnings rally and could be ready for the next leg higher. The thesis is priced at a discount while the news is fresh. A defined-risk call debit spread into January pays roughly two to one if the rebound reaches the summer highs, and caps the loss if the agent story stays a headline.
